🚨 Pet Safety Alert: Common Toxic Risks🚨
We love our furry friends, so let’s keep them safe and sound! 🐶🐱 Keep these things far away from your fur babies!
Common Toxic Foods
🍫 Chocolate – Sweet for us, but a no-no for pets! 🚫 It can cause vomiting, seizures, and more. The darker the chocolate, the higher concentration of toxin.
🍇 & 🍒 Grapes & Raisins – They might seem like a tasty snack, but they can lead to kidney failure in both cats and dogs! 😿🐕
🧄 Garlic & Onions – They can cause serious tummy trouble and damage to red blood cells. 😬
🥑 Avocados – They’re yummy for us, but can cause tummy troubles and damage to the cardiovascular system in our furry friends. Guacamole for humans only! 🥑❌
🍬 Xylitol aka Birch Sugar (found in sugar-free gum, candy, and baked goods) – Sweet for us, but it can cause liver failure in dogs. 🐶❌
🍞 Raw Dough – The yeast can rise in their tummies and cause painful bloating. 🍞🚫
🥩 Cooked Bones – They can splinter and hurt your pet’s digestive system! 🔪❌
🍷 Alcohol – Even a tiny sip can cause some serious harm! Alcohol consumption can lead to seizures, neurological deficits, and severe gastrointestinal upset 🍷🚫
❤️ Reminder: Always check before sharing any food with your pets. When in doubt, stick to pet-safe treats! 🐾
Common Toxic Plants
🌸 Lilies: Beautiful but dangerous! All types of lilies (e.g., Easter lilies, Tiger lilies) are highly toxic to cats. Ingesting even a small amount can cause kidney failure. All parts of this plant are toxic.
🌿 Oleander: This stunning shrub contains toxins that can cause severe heart issues, vomiting, and even death in both dogs and cats.
🍂 Azalea: A favorite in many gardens, azaleas can cause vomiting, cardiac abnormalities, and even seizures if ingested by your pet. The entire plant is toxic
🌱 Sago Palm: While it might look attractive, the Sago Palm is extremely poisonous. The entire plant can be dangerous for your pet, but the seeds contain the highest concentration of the toxin, cycasin. Ingesting this plant can lead to liver failure and even death.
🌼 Autumn Crocus: These flowers may look harmless, but they can cause organ failure and severe gastrointestinal distress in both dogs and cats.
🌻 Daffodils: Bright and cheerful, daffodils are toxic to pets, causing vomiting, diarrhea, and more severe reactions like convulsions if eaten.
🍁 English Ivy: Commonly found as ground cover, English Ivy can cause gastrointestinal upset, drooling, and a decrease in heart rate if consumed by pets.
Yews: Typically used as hedges. Vomiting and neurologic signs may occur, but sudden death is possible.
Please keep in mind that this list is not comprehensive, and ingestion of any plant material can lead to gastrointestinal upset in your pet.
👀 What to Do If You Think Your Pet Has Eaten a Toxic Plant:
- Stay Calm: Remove your pet from the plant.
- Identify the Plant: Try to determine what your pet ate to help your vet provide the best care.
- Contact Your Veterinarian Immediately: Don’t wait for symptoms to appear! Time is crucial in preventing serious harm.
